How to Create a 30-Day Content Plan With AI

Share

You want to post on your blog every week, but you never know what to write next. So you open a blank page, stare at it, and close it again. A content plan fixes that. It is just a list of what you will publish, and when.

AI can build that list in about an hour. It cannot know your readers, though. That part is your job. In this guide I will show you a simple way to use AI to plan 30 days of blog content, step by step, with prompts you can copy.

What a 30-day content plan actually is

A 30-day plan is a table with four things in it: a date, a topic, the main search phrase, and a short note on what the post should do for the reader. That is all. It is not a big strategy document.

A plan is just a table: date, topic, search phrase, purpose. - How to Create a 30-Day Content Plan With AI

Why 30 days? It is long enough to see a pattern, and short enough that you will not feel stuck with it. You can change it next month.

If you want the bigger picture first, read how to create topic clusters for SEO. It shows how posts on one subject support each other. A good plan is built on that idea.

What AI is good at here, and what it is not

AI is quick at lists. It can give you 50 topic ideas in a minute. It can sort them into groups. It can put them into a calendar. It can also write a first outline for each one.

AI is weak at knowing what your readers really struggle with. It does not know your story. It will also happily suggest topics that a hundred other blogs already cover the same way. Left alone, it gives you a plan that looks nice and sounds like everyone else.

So the rule is simple. Let AI do the typing. You make the choices.

Step 1: Write down who you are writing for

Before you open any AI tool, write three short lines on paper:

Before any AI tool, write down who you are writing for. - How to Create a 30-Day Content Plan With AI
  • Who is my reader? (Example: a beginner who wants to start a blog and feels lost.)
  • What is their biggest problem right now?
  • What do I want them to do after reading? (Join my list, read another post, try a free tool.)

These three lines go into every prompt. Without them, AI guesses, and it guesses in a generic way.

Step 2: Ask AI for a long list of topic ideas

Now give AI your three lines and ask for ideas. Here is a prompt you can copy:

I run a blog for [your reader]. Their biggest problem is [problem]. Give me 40 blog post ideas that answer real questions they would type into Google. Write each idea as a plain, specific title. Group them into 4 themes.

Notice two things. You asked for 40, not 30, because some will be weak. And you asked for real questions, which pushes AI away from vague titles like “Everything You Need to Know.”

If you have no idea what people search for, try using AI for keyword research next. It helps you check whether anyone is actually looking for your topics.

Step 3: Cut the list down to 30

Read the 40 ideas yourself. Cross out any that:

AI gives you 40 ideas. You choose the 30 worth writing. - How to Create a 30-Day Content Plan With AI
  • you cannot write about honestly, because you know nothing about it,
  • sound like every other blog on the same subject,
  • do not help your reader do the thing you wrote in Step 1,
  • are the same idea with different words.

Then pick the 30 you like most. You may need to ask AI for a few more to fill the gaps. That is fine.

Please do not skip this step. A plan that AI wrote and you never read is how blogs end up with 30 posts nobody needs. Google has said that using AI is allowed, but that mass-producing pages with little value breaks its spam rules. Your own judgment is what makes the plan useful.

Step 4: Put the topics in a sensible order

Do not publish in random order. Ask AI to help you order the list like this:

Here are my 30 blog topics: [paste list]. Put them in a 30-day order. Start with the simplest beginner topics. Put posts that build on each other close together. Mark which posts should link to which.

Beginner posts first is a good rule. A new reader can then follow along, and each new post can link back to an easier one.

Your ordering also decides which posts link to each other. Plan those links now, not later. This guide to starting a content website is a good example of a main post that other posts can point to.

Step 5: Turn it into a simple calendar

Ask AI to put everything in a table. Here is a prompt:

Turn this ordered list into a table with these columns: Day, Post title, Main search phrase, What the reader will be able to do after reading, Link to another post on my blog.

Then copy the table into whatever you already use. A spreadsheet works. So does a notes app or a paper notebook. Pick the one you will actually open.

Step 6: Decide how often you will really post

A “30-day plan” does not mean 30 posts. It means 30 days of plan. For most beginners who work alone, posting every day is too much, and quality drops fast.

Thirty days of plan does not mean thirty posts. - How to Create a 30-Day Content Plan With AI

Here are three honest options:

  • 2 posts a week. About 8 posts in 30 days. Easy to keep up with a job or family.
  • 3 posts a week. About 12 posts. Needs a steady writing habit.
  • 1 post a day. About 30 posts. Only if you have the time and still care about each post.

Pick the one you can keep up for three months, not three days. If you choose 2 a week, simply keep the 8 strongest topics from your list and save the rest for next month.

Step 7: Write a short brief for each post

This step saves you the most time later. For each topic, ask AI for a one-paragraph brief:

For the post titled [title], give me: the main question it answers, 5 headings, 3 things a beginner usually gets wrong, and one example I could add from my own experience.

Then fill in the example yourself. That last part matters. AI cannot give you a true story from your life, and readers can tell when a post has none.

When you are ready to write the posts, how to write blog posts with AI walks through the next stage.

A sample week from a plan

Here is what a short piece of a plan can look like. This is an example, not a rule.

  • Day 1: What is a blog niche? (explains the basics)
  • Day 4: How to choose a niche you can stay with (builds on Day 1)
  • Day 8: 5 mistakes new bloggers make with their first posts (links to Day 1 and Day 4)

See how each post leans on the one before it? That is what makes a plan better than a pile of random ideas.

Common mistakes to avoid

Using the first list AI gives you

The first answer is usually the most common one. Ask for more, then choose.

Planning too far ahead

A 30-day plan is enough. A 12-month plan will be out of date by March.

Never checking the plan against real data

After a month, look at which posts people actually read. Use that to shape the next plan. Your readers will tell you what they want if you let them.

Forgetting old posts

New posts are not the only work. Updating an old post can help too. See how to update old blog posts and add one update day each week.

Questions people ask

Can AI make a content plan for me completely?

It can make a draft in minutes. But you still need to choose the topics, because only you know your reader and your story.

Which AI tool should I use?

Any general AI chat tool can do the steps above. If you are not sure which to start with, my Claude vs ChatGPT comparison for beginners may help. Prices and limits change, so check each company’s own page.

How long does this take?

About an hour for the first plan, once you have your three lines written. After that, a monthly refresh takes less time.

What if I miss a day?

Move that post to the next slot and keep going. A plan is a guide, not a test.

Your next step

Open a blank page and write your three lines: who you are writing for, their biggest problem, and what you want them to do next. Then run the topic prompt from Step 2. You can have a rough plan before your coffee gets cold.

You do not need a perfect plan. You need one that gets you writing.
